3 Steps to Commissioning a Painting

How-To

Did you know that one of the best aspects of my job is working with clients on original, commissioned paintings? Sometimes people see a painting on my website that they like, but would prefer something a little different such as different colors or a different canvas size. When this happens, I am more than happy to discuss a commissioned painting with you! To speed up the process, I’m going to share the three steps to commissioning a painting so you know what you need to have prepared and what to expect from me.

Contact Me

The commission process is relatively simple and the first step is to contact me. I promise I’m nice and won’t bite, just let me know that you would like to commission a painting. I’ll be more than happy to walk you through the process and create the perfect work of art to suit your preferences. Speaking of preferences…

Consider Your Preferences

Considering what you want in your painting is the “hardest” part of the process. I say “hardest” because it requires a little bit of thought and communication, not that there is anything challenging about it. Here are some things to consider:

  • What size would you like? I offer various sizes of paintings to meet your needs. Many of my clients find it helpful to tape off the area where they intend to hang the painting and measure the space.
  • What style of painting are you interested in? Once you find a painting (or two!) that you like in my portfolio, we can discuss and decide which style is best for your painting. Some people prefer a blended painting like my Sunset Series, while others prefer a more textured, rustic style based on my Modern Industrial series. It’s all about you and your preferences.
  • What colors do you want to feature? Sometimes one of my paintings is exactly what you’re looking for…in the exact opposite color palette. If this is the case, we can discuss what colors might be better suited for your space. Plus, you can always send me photos or fabric swatches to ensure that the colors are as closely matched as possible.

Once all of these questions are answered, I will provide you with a price quote, an estimated date of completion, and the instructions to purchase your painting.

Creating the Painting

After all of these decisions are made, you get to sit back and relax while I create the perfect painting for you! Once I’ve completed it, I will send you a photo to ensure that you are completely happy with it before shipping. Then, I will carefully pack your masterpiece and ship it to you.

Not too complicated, right? Making people happy with my artwork is an amazing feeling, and I’d love to create a piece just for you.
