How to Save Money on Shipping Large Art

How-To, Tools

Any artist who creates large works of art knows that shipping costs can add considerable expense. No one wants to spend hundreds of dollars on shipping costs, which is why today I’m going to share my shipping secret with you. The Genie Canvas is a collapsible canvas system that significantly reduces the cost of shipping. A shipment from Portland, Oregon to London that would originally cost $700 would be reduced to only $100. This allows large art to be economically shipped across the globe!

The Old Method

If you search the web, you can find many forums and articles from artists dedicated to answering the question, “What is the best way to ship my artwork?” They often consist of step-by-step instructions including wrapping the piece in plastic for water protection, sandwiching the art in foam boards to add sturdiness, and using a large piece of cardboard to create a correctly sized box. Sounds complicated, doesn’t it? And even then, it could still cost several hundred dollars to ship that large, foam- sandwiched piece of artwork.

The Solution

The Genie Canvas was created as a solution for a long-time artist who was frustrated with packaging and shipping her artwork. These heavy weight, 100% cotton, collapsible canvases are shipped to your door in individual, reusable tubes. They assemble easily using no tools and come with a wire for hanging.

I use Genie canvases for all my large pieces and have had nothing but fantastic experiences. My customers love them because it makes shipping more affordable and the canvas is incredibly easy to reassemble. For more information on how they work, you can watch the Genie Canvas videos here or check out their tips and tricks here.
